Appeal considered
PA Wellington An appeal by Walter Thomas Mainwaring against a verdict of murder was under close consideration, his counsel, Mr S. Lockhart, said yesterday. A High Court jury at Auckland on Tuesday found the 20-year-old naval rating eof the murder of eline Hazel Blunden, aged 16, at Takapuna last
August and he was sentenced to life imprisonment by Mr Justice Thorp. Members of Mainwaring’s family burst into tears when the jury of seven men and five women gave their verdict after deliberating for 6V2 hours. During the six-day trial Mr Lockhart had submitted that it was a case of manslaughter.
