4000 blankets recalled

PA- Wellington Electric blankets and bedwarmers with an estimated retail value of $75,000 are being recalled for safety reasons. With 4000 blankets involved in the recall, announced on Tuesday, is believed to be the biggest in the industry’s history. It is being made on the recommendation of the Ministry of Energy. The blankets were sold through the Woolworths and McKenzies stores under their own brand name, “Chevron.” They were made for the stores by Zip holdings, Ltd, of Lower Hutt. Both Zip and the chainstore group have published

recall notices in newspapers throughout New Zealand. Extensive television and radio advertising is also being used to recall the blankets. The notice applies only to blankets coloured cream on one side and orange on the other, and it offers refunds on all blankets returned. The commercial manager of the Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy, Mr David Cook, said it had not been necessary to order the recall as full co-operation had been received. He said the particular blanket was bonded rather than sewn together. The manufacturers said yesterday that it was too early to gauge the reaction to the recall.
