Pressure on leaders
Linwood and Sydenham, the co-leaders in a very close Canterbury rugby league premiership, will be under pressure to retain their unbeaten records at the Show Grounds tomorrow. The championship-winner of the last two seasons, Eastern Suburbs, will provide stern opposition to Linwood in the main game, and Hornby must be conceded some chance of continuing its improvement and upsetting Sydenham in the cur-tain-raiser. Few sides have begun a
season in such an imposing fashion as Linwood. It beat Eastern — and relieved it of the Desmond-Rogers Memorial Challenge Trophy — on its way to victory in the Radio Avon-Qantas knockout tournament, and has since given no hint that its momentum might weaken. In the other games, Papanui, against Addington at Show Grounds No. 2, and Marist, conceding home ground advantage to Kaiapoi, will again be trying to end a series of unfavourable results.
