Hughes to coach Fiji
Mr Wally Hughes, who guided New Zealand’s 1977 World Cup bid, is to assist in coaching the Fijian soccer team in the Oceania group qualifying matches this year. Mr Hughes is expected to leave Auckland on Saturday and he will take charge of the Fijian squad in a threeweek training camp. In its opening World Cup match, Fiji was well beaten, 4-0, by
New Zealand, on May 3. Four years ago, New Zealand beat Taiwan twice, 6-0, but lost to Australia in Sydney, 1-3, then drew, 1-1, at Auckland. Mr Hughes has coached in Dubai and at present is in charge of Papakura City in the northern league. While he is with Fiji, it will play its qualifying matches against Indonesia and Taiwan.
