Bold Timaru trial by Hilarious Guest

Hilarious Guest looked ready for a bold run in the Roydon Lodge Fillies’ Stakes at Timaru on Saturday with a fine run at the Addington trials yesterday. Although only second, beaten narrowly by El Vista, Hilarious Guest was most impressive. The Hilarious: Way filly went sideways at the start, losing some 15m, but was in front after the field had gone 400 m. El Vista came solidly over the final.3oom and, although he got up to win by a head, Hilarious Guest looked to have plenty in reserve.

Magic Star, three out without cover early, made ground well for third a half a length back, with Glen Lustre fourth. The winner. El Vista, paced the distance in 2min 475, the final 800 m in 62.9 s and the last 400 m in 30.65. Canis Minor had little difficulty winning the main heat for C3-OC pacers, dashing to a six-length lead 1300 m out, and holding his advantage to the line to beat Superior Chance, with False Resal close up third. False Regal was disappointing at Addington last start, but could be a better prospect in the Johnnie Walker Handicap, first leg of the Timaru Trotting Club’s T.A.B. double on Saturday.
