Farm power fees
The North Canterbury Electric Power Board has replied to an article in “The Press” on May 4 under the heading, “Farmers upset over power charges.” The board said yesterday that the first 200 units of general farm power was charged at 15.26 c per unit, and the balance at 7.29 c per unit. The article only quoted the 15.26 c a unit rate when comparing it with the domestic rate of 5.42 c.
The board said that irrigation power was also charged out at 15.26 c per unit for the first 200 units. The balance was charged out at 4.41 c per unit. All units for water heating were charged at 3.5 c per unit. The board said that South Island farmers were eligible for a 25 per cent subsidy on electricity costs for irrigation and other specified agricultural activities approved by the Government under the subsidy scheme.
