Charter supported
The Canterbury ’ section committee of the Public Service Association has-voted in support of all but clauses 6 and 11 of the 15-clause Working Women’s Charter.
Those clauses the, section supports,.include the controversial reference to abortion and sex education. The charter has already been adopted by the Federation :of Labour and the executive committee of the P.S.A. After the P.S.A. executive committee adopted the charter last year the P.S.A. prepared a paper for circulation to all sections for discussion. Canterbury’s vote was one of the last in New Zealand.
The acting secretary of the Canterbury section, Mrs L. Keast, said that the result would be sent to the equal
opportunities sub-committee of the’ national office of the P.S.A. Clause six of the charter provides for union meetings and special trade union education courses for dll unionists with paid time off for participants,, while clause 11 calls for consultation with and special attention to the needs of all workers from ethnic communities. with special attention to the needs of women.
