Late nights reduced

PA Wellington Late shopping nights for grocery and supermarket workers were reduced* from two to one in an Arbitration Court decision yesterday.

The hours of work clause in. the grocery and supermarket award was referred to the Court after union objections to the inclusion of Saturday in the normal working week.

The court has included Saturday, in line with the Shop Trading Hours Amendment Act, but it has also decided to reduce late nights. The shop employees’ advocate, Mr R. J. Campbell, has welcomed the decision, but the Retailers’ Federation spokesman, Mr Terry. Currie, said that , the federation was surprised, as the act provided for. 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. trading.
