Dee Cee destroyed after breaking leg

Dee Cee, a winner for John Bourne's Riccarton stable last season, fractured a leg in training at Riccarton yesterday and was put down.

He was galloping on the No. 1 grass in preparation for a start against the hurdlers at the Amberley meeting when a hind leg gave out on him.

A five-year-old gelding by Heir Apparent IT, Dee Cee cleared maiden ranks in his fourth of six starts from the Bourne stable last season.

He had not raced this season.

The Bourne-trained Ay Em came in for much attention in yesterday’s training when he was paired with the good winner Aramis on the No. 1 grass, which was being used for the first time this year, and gave firm, fast footing.

Honours of their 1200 m gallop appeared to be fairly even, and both should come in for solid backing in the Amberley Centennial Cup on Saturday,

■ Aramis’s trainer, Peter Jones, will not see his stable’s best winner run on Saturday. Jones left last evening on the first leg of a trip that will take him to the Continent and the United -kingdom.

He will return in July to take over the preparation of some promising rising three-year-olds which will race at the Grand National meeting.

Retep, a promising two-year-old in the Williams stable, might have earned favouritism for the Huntonleigh Lodge Handicap at the Amberley meeting with an attractive 800 m sprint yesterday. He scorched over the distance in 46.45.

Retep was a good second in his race debut at the Marlborough meeting. Retep’s stabiemate, Last Surge, was partnered with Eagle Ille to run 800 m in 47.25.

Eagle Hie is a Sovereign Eagle filly engaged in the Huntonleigh Lodge Handicap at the Amberley meeting. Firefly was too fast and

much too seasoned for Westernina in their 1600 m gallop. Westernina dropped behind after they ran the opening 800 m in 50.85. Firefly finished the 1600 m in Imin 43.65.

Crafty and Lint followed over 1600 m in Imin 45.45, the last -800 m in 535. Mirtoan Sea recci .’.ed Imin 49.55. Nasushi showed pleasing dash while running 800 m in 47.65.

The brothers Grey Appro and Gin Time reeled off their 800 m in 48.25, a figure also returned earlier by Third Degree and Damazan. Chiltern Blaze, one of the early workers on the plough, sprinted, the last 600 m of 1000 m in 37.25.

The Amberley Cup candidate, Spy Force, was paired with his stablemate Spy Troop to run 800 m. the first 200 m in 14.45, the final 600 m in 39.85; Denosera, a form runner in the hurdles at Amberley, ran in from the 800 m in 53.25, quickening for the final 600 m in 395.
