Inner harbour moorings
Sir,—Until such time as the Harbour Board can offer satisfactory alternatives, surely it is an unwise decision not to reallocate moorings as they become available. They would be well advised to have another look at the situation and consider a modern marina with all facilities in the position at present occupied by pile moorings. I would further suggest that the board consult independent engineers for another opinion. They could no doubt produce a modern plan for the inner harbour, thus using it to full capacity commercially and at the same time providing a safe marina for yachts, and a real source of ■ revenue for the board. No doubt residents of West Lyttelton would much prefer a yacht marina to flashing lights and noise until late at night, right below their homes. Let us have some real engineering ability to cater for both commerce and pleasure.—Yours, etc., A. D. STEMMER. May 11, 1981.
