Canterbury retains water polo title

Canterbury. A, always a very warm favourite, convincingly retained its national secondary schoolboys water polo championship at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening. After not having made a very good fist of beating Wellington in its first match. Canterbury overcame that team, 12-3, in its final game.

Canterbury had a second share of the honours when its B team won third place, behind Wellington, with its second defeat of a much improved Wanganui team.. The girls’ championship, con-’ tested only by Canterbury and Wellington teams, had to go. to a count-back, when Wellington scored a slightly surprsing will- against Canterbury A in their second matching. Canterbury was a fairly comfortable winner in their first meeting, but bowed to a two-goal loss in their second match.

The most valuable player of the tournament in the boys’ grade was the Canterbury B goalie, Craig Hamilton, and the outstanding girl player was Anthea Forbes (Canterbury). Detailed results.— BOVS
