Warning on wages
PA Wellington The decision of the Federation of Labour not to accept tax cuts in lieu of wage rises was extraordinary, the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) said yesterday. Talks on the matter had been going on for some time and he had understood there was agreement over it, he said.
The decision was extraordinary because the Government’s policy on tax cuts would help the working man by lowering inflation. Mr Muldoon said the Government would not permit a wage-price explosion to take place. The F.O.L. made the decision at its annual conference last week.
