Town Hall to provide parking
The Christchurch Tow, Hall should be responsible for the full costs — including land purchase and development - of providing nearbv car parking, the City Council’s policy and finance committee said yesterday. Long-term requirements call for provision of about 350 parking spaces-after Victoria Street is eventuallyclosed to traffic. Present Town Hall facilities provide 70 spaces.
An area using part of the closed street and land in the nearby triangle where buildings now stand could provide 100 more ground-level spaces, for a development cost of about $250,000.
Although other buildings will eventually be demolished, the Salvation Army Citadel will soon be rebuilt on its present site.
