Seen this vehicle?
The police would like to hear from anyone who saw this Leyland P 76 taxi, pictured with Detective K. W. Kortegast beside it, between Maruia Springs and Murchison last Tuesday night. Inquiries into the armed hold-up of the Bank of New Zealand’s Woolston branch on the same day are concentrating on the movements of
the car in the Lewis Pass A sighting of the car, which was maroon with a light-coloured top, might help the C. 1.8. recover a shotgun and other items used in the robbery, said Detective Inspector N. J. Stokes. The police believe the car may have stopped on the roadside for about 15 minutes before dusk, prob-
ably between Maruia Springs and Murchison. It is hoped that a traveller may have noticed where the car stopped.
Mr Stokes said that more than $12,000 of the $16,500 taken in the hold-up had been recovered. Two men appeared in the District Court yesterday charged with the robbery.
