Cramped but ‘plush’
PA Wellington The attack made on the press at the Federation of Labour conference last week by the F.O.L. president (Mr W. J. Knox) yesterday appeared to have at least some support from within the Labour Party. Reporters assigned to cover the annual party conference this election year found themselves yesterday morning installed in the Deputy Mayor of Wellington’s office at the Town Hall. The office had been described in an advance to journalists as “plush accommodation.” It turned out to be a room estimated to be 400 square feet into which more than 20 newspaper and radio journalists with typewriters and electronic equipment were expected to work. “The Labour Department would probably have something to say about such working conditions,” quipped one journalist.
