Skybus to cut $8O off fare
PA Auckland The Aqua Avia society, promoters of the cheap air fare Skybus concept, hopes to have a domestic service between the main centres in about three months. The planned fares are significantly cheaper than those now charged by Ai/ New Zealand.
Air New Zealand charges $l6O for a return flight between Auckland and Wellington. The society’s fare will be $99. Other return airfares which the society will charge, with Air New Zealand fares in brackets, are: — Auckland - Christ-
church, $l5O ($2.30); Auckland - Dunedin, $195 ($296); and Wellington - Dunedin, $l5O ($246). The society’s board decided yesterday to lease a Vickers Viscount 802/806 aircraft for two .years from British Air Ferries, Ltd.
According to the society’s chief executive, Mr W. M. B. Thompson, three daily flights are planned between Auckland and Wellington. There will be three services a week to Christchurch and Dunedin. Mr Thompson said that the society hoped to be operating in about three months.
