‘No S.A.L.T. rush'
The American Secretary of State (Mr Alexander Haig) has said that American willingness to discuss Europeanbased missiles with Moscow did not mean President Reagan was ready to resume negotiations on the stalled Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. The S.A.L.T. problem was both technical and “clearly related to Soviet international behaviour overall and in East-West relations,” Mr Haig said. “I do not foresee a resumption of such talks in the immediate future,” Mr Haig said after a council meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Foreign Ministers of the 15' N.A.T.O. .nations welcomed America’s decision to open talks with the Soviet Union by the end of this year on limiting medium-range nuclear missiles based in Europe.—Rome.
