Sluggish Central
Central Districts is again beset by problems with its second Tooth Cup rugby league match against Penrith to be played at Sydney on Wednesday evening. It suffered the late defections of three Kiwis, Howie Tamati and Whetu Henry (both injured) and John Whittaker (ill), and was far from impressive in beating Northern Districts, 24-18, at Wellington on Saturday. However, the win at least enables it to share the inter-districts com-
petition lead with Auckland. . After trailing Northern, 613, at half-time, Central improved sufficiently to head off its lowly-rated rival. But its over-all performance hardly bodes well for its encounter with Penrith. Scorers—Central 2.4 (K. R. Tamati two, W. Greenland two, D. Uluave, W. R. Collicoat tries; Collicoat three goals) beat Northern 18 (D. Goodhue, W. Kells, H. Toi, W. Tukiri tries; Tukiri three goals).
