League cup challenge
Northland will make its first rugby league visit to Christchurch when it challenges Canterbury for the Rugby League Cup at the Show Grounds on May 30. Confirmation of Northland’s visit was given by the secretary of the Canterbury League (Mr Mannie Underwood) yesterday. It seems that Northland made its decision to travel after beating
Hamilton, 59-9, last weekend. Three Canterbury teams will now be in action over Queen’s Birthday Week-end. In addition to the first XIII’s game with Northland, Canterbury B and Canterbury Colts will oppose West Coast B and Otago-Southland in the South Island second division championship at Christchurch on May 30 and 31.
