Erebus report
Sir,—The report of the Chief Inspector of Air Accidents, Mr R. Chippindale, places the blame on the pilots of the DCIO. Mr Justice Mahon disagrees. I wonder how many other dead pilots have been blamed for their accidents with consequent grief and hardship to their families? Since my aircraft accident on April 14, 1967, 1 have always advocated that aircraft accidents should be investigated by a panel of experts, not one man. It is high time New Zealand followed the United States where members of a special team give their views. My advice to any pilot involved in a flying accident is to say nothing until a lawyer has been consulted—Yours, etc CAPTAIN BRIAN WAUGH, Nelson. May 4 1981.
