Another Blenheim success for Father Lou?

From

W. R. CARSTON

Blenheim If the farm pattern in t'.-a major race-, for stayers follows tne same trend as it has on the first two days of the Marlborough Racing Club’s annual mining, Father Lou should wind up his southern campaign with a victory in the Thibenzole Handicap today. The Hawera-trained stayer has been a model of cons'l.tency and has never stopped improving. He was no match for Ararnis in thei Marlborough Cup on the first day but made short work of th j opposition in the Turuturu Lodge Handicap on Monday in the handsi of Bruce Compton. Father Lou will again be! Compton's mount in the first leg of today’s T.A.B. double, in which he may have no more than six rivals. It was announced yesterday morning that Grand Cheval, the thrid place-get-ter in both the Cup and the main race on Monday, is likely to run in the Cotura Fashions Handicap, in preference. to the first leg of the double. Fraxy, which was improved with each of his two earlier races at the meeting, should be the hardest for Father Lou to beat but t ere will be strong backing also for Double You Em, a close and fast-finishing f .irth in the Marlborough Cup. Among the others; the < most improved could be Ask ’.‘ The Question. He co I ’ ■» «. been feeling the effects, of if his ■ race at Woodville last 'j.Friday and p. long. journeyacross t.o Blenheim on Sun- * day .when he contested the t, Turuturu Lodge Handicap on Monday.

Dhatu and Blue and Black, the principals in the finish, of the City Handicap on Monday, are two of the ob-l vious choices for the second) ; leg, the S. H. McKay Mem-; orial. ' I Dhatu was the favourite! when beaten by Blue and Black in Monday’s contect and the latter will be going for his third consecutive victory at the meeting. Compton’s mount, Sover-, eign’s Will, is sure to have! solid backing and if Kazalia! and Craigola c- . overcome fairly wide barrier draws they, to, could be heavily in-' volved in the finish. As well as being the secI ond leg of the double, the McKay Memorial will Lj the second leg of the T.A.B. treble. The first leg of this treble will be the Country Prince Handicap, in which the poj bar fancy might be! Atiende.
