Port of Taranaki to handle oil products
PA New Plymouth Development of the Port of Taranaki at New Plymouth to handle hydrocarbon and petrochemical products has been approved by the Ports Authority. Authority approval depends on harbour authorities going ahead with a $19.25 million development plan for the port in the next three years, The -approval will allow the port to handle oil and petrochemical products from the offshore Maui oil and gas field and the recently discovered McKee 2 field in north Taranaki.
Planned development include the extension of the Newton King terminal, construction of a bulk area store, harbour deepening, and construction of a new cement berth and tug.. '■ Initial plans by the Harbour Board to spend $3O million dredging the harboui have been with a $& million programme . for dredging in specific areas, the authority said. ' The authority recently approved plans for repairs and modifications, worth $2.64 million, to the port’s main breakwater.
