Red Cross appeal
A provisional figure of $75,000 was announced as the total amount collected for the Red Cross in the North Canterbury region, which stretches from the Rakaia to the Conway Rivers. Mr John Mahoney, secretary manager of the North Canterbury branch of the Red Cross Society, said yes-
terday that he was pleased that the figure was close to last year’s total of $74,000. "Last year, the total was 20 per cent up on the amount collected the year before, and to be able to hold that figure, or even better it slightly as we seem to have done, shows that the public is behind us,” he said.
