Sir,—ln support of Stan Hemsley's plea for a changed policy re our “priceless forests.” (April 29), it was not until I abandoned my rockingchair and moved among, walked and talked w-ith fellow New Zealanders, at Westport at Easter, that I perceived the mulish intractability of a small band of executives. Only after visiting areas of our choice untouched beauty, did I understand the tenuous hopes some of us hold for their survival. My granddaughter was able to view these spectacular features, especially the unique, shrinking lowland, forests. Her children will learn of them only through booklore — perhaps lumped with the pink and white terraces. My erstwhile fervour in singing “God Defend New Zealand,” is diminishing (daily because of the present: Minister of Forests and hishenchmen. — Yours, etc., LORNA ANKER. Anril 29. 1981.
