Timber price rise again likely
PA Wellington The price of unprocessed timber has risen by more than 20 per cent in the last 12 months and further increases are likely, according to the general manager of the Timber Merchants’ Federation, Mr Brian Poole. He said the .20 per cent increase in rail freight would probably push the price of timber higher but ; he could not say by how much. Mr Poole blamed labour costs and higher charges for logs and freight for rising costs. He said timber merchants had not asked for a price increase for some years because they were worried about consumer resistance.
