No Cadillacs to Japan
The visiting American banker, Mr Fred Whittlemore, reporting on a meeting with the Prime Minister yesterday morning, said he had asked Mr Muldoon what success he had had on trade protectionist questions with Japanese officials. Mr Whittlemore told the Pacific Basin Economic Council's luncheon that Mr Muldoon said he had not had much success. “He said he'd had about as much success as we Americans had in selling cars to the Japanese.” Mr Whittlemore added: “And we haven’t sold a Cadillac to Japan since 1946.”
