Auction series

Next season’s roster of wool auction sales offers 110 selling opportunities at main or separation sales, according to the secretary of the Wool Auction Sales Committee, Mr Tony Arthur. According to the Press Association there is a strong movement towards sale by separation. Under this system wool held in one centre is offered at another on the basis of samples and certificates recording scientific measurements, a system which provides more frequent opportunities for growers to offer their wool at auction, Mr Arthur says.

The new roster, for the period from August, 1981, to June, 1982, makes allowance for an increase of about six per cent in volume compared with the estimated final throughput for the current season.

There will be 79 main sales, compared with 75 this season. Provision is made for about 1,950,000 bales to be offered compared with the 1,830,000 bales estimated for the current season.

The roster is also aimed at maintaining a balanced and steady flow of wool on to the market for the benefit of the wool-using industries around the world.

Mr Arthur says once the season opens there should be at least one sale a week, except over international holiday periods such as Christmas and Easter.
