Guards on theft count
A shift of security guards at Todd Motors, Wellington, have been responsible for stealing thousands of dollars worth of car parts, according to a police prosecutor. A number of security guards employed by the firm appeared before Judge Beatson.
Barry George Clark, aged 31, an unemployed security guard (Mr Bruce Buckton), pleaded guilty to two charges of theft of property valued at $923. He was convicted and remanded on bail of $lOOO with a similar surety for sentence on May 14. Richard lan Mason, aged 44, an unemployed security guard, and Raymond Lester Mawson, aged 48, a security guard (Mr Nigel Hewat), faced one charge of theft each. They were remanded on continued bail, without plea, to appear again on May 21. Douglas Ralph Richards, aged 56, a garage proprietor, was accused of receiving stolen goods from Mason — 40 car tyres valued at $2OOO, the property of Todd Motors. He was remanded without plea to appear again on May 7 on bail of $lOOO with a surety of $lOOO.
James Arthur Williams, aged 43, a garage proprietor, elected trial by jury on a charge of receiving stolen goods from Clark.
