Honour for Mr Talboys
PA . Wellington The appointment of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Trade (Mr Talboys), as a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour was announced by the Governor-General (Sir David Beattie) yesterday. The order was instituted by King George V in 1917 for those who have rendered “conspicuous service of national importance import-
ance,” a Government House statement said. The order does not confer any title, but ranks next to and immediately after Knights and Dames Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (G.8.E.). Members may use the letters “C.H.” after their names. ~ In New Zealand the order was traditionally reserved for Prime Ministers and senior long-serving Ministers of the Crown, Government House said. The other New Zealand members were Mr Peter Fraser (1946), Sir Sydney Holland (1951), Sir Walter Nash (1959), the former Gov-ernor-General, Sir Keith Holyoake (1963), Sir John Marshall (19730, and the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon (1977).
