Constant surveillance of the movement of ships from up to 32km away is a feature of the hew harbour radar system at Tees Port, in north-east England. Here, the harbourmaster in the operations room, situated skm up river, keeps a watchful eye on ship’s movements via four radar monitoring screens. Information is supplied to the operations room by three independent radar sites controlled via UHF radio links. Two are unmanned and transmit information over a Ferranti micrOwave link to the operations room, where the third radar is situated on the roof
In the operations room four Decca Bright Displays are incorporated into a console. The Bright Display system has, a small, very high definition. cathode ray tube on which the, radar signal is received, This is coupled to a vidicom, camera that projects a high definition image on the screen,
