Grain embargo
Sir.—l hope that President Reagan, who has made a decision to lift the American grain embargo against the Soviet Union will do so conditionally — “that Poland will not be invaded,” a good bargaining point. Wheat and corn are priorities to a great nation like Russia which has suffered so much drought in its vast corn fields and also where animals depend on grain. On the other hand, the American farmers are impatient to sell off their huge surpluses. A little more patience and prudence and the Russians will step back and toe the line. — Yours, etc., A. DELHANTY.2 April 28, 1981.
