Civic Centre to become ballroom
Preliminary sketch 7’'.ns for redevelopment of the old Christchurch City Council offices in Manchester Street have been completed by the . building’s conditional owner, V Berryman Holdings, Ltd. The plans (above) show the big ground floor as a dancing and entertainment area. In the second plan, the old council meeting room has become a restaurant. There will also be an open air garden restaurant on that floor, along with a cocktail lounge that will have a piano
and possibly a small dance floor. Mr C. J. Berryman said he wanted builders on the job in early August. His company was arranging development capital, atad was in the process of applying for a liquor licence. Mr Berryman wants to open the entertainment centre in December, in time for the Christmas trade. The entire office building will be redeveloped at this stage; a later stage will see the redevelopment of the old Civic Theatre.
