Armed robbery charge
The hearing of depositions of evidence of prosecution witnesses in a joint charge against two men of armed robbery of a woman in a dairy began early last evening in the District Court. The two defendants are Barry John Wiki, aged 27, unemployed (Mr S. C. Barker), arid Rex Donald Hitchcox, aged 30, unemployed (Mr J. Halls). Two large-calibre rifles are to be produced in the case. The two are jointly charged with robbing a woman of $l2O while armed
with an offensive weapon, a rifle, on March 7; and conspiracy with each other to commit riobbery, On'or about March 7. Wiki is also charged with unlawfully taking a car valued at $340, belonging to Margaret Hill, on March 6. Each has elected trial by jury on the charges. ; After the first of 10 prosecution witnesses had given evidence, Messrs M. B. Hayes and V. C. Empson, Justices of the Peace, adjourned the case to today. Detective Sergeant J. Ell is prosecuting.
