Costello axed
NZPA Brisbane The Queensland rugby selectors have axed the wing, Paul Costello, for the threematch New Zealand tour next week. Costello has been dropped after his disappointing showing in Queensland’s 22-20 win ever Canterbury, at Ballymore on Sunday. His handling let him down badly and he made several errors under pressure, something only experience can overcome. Costello was originally picked in the Queensland side as a replacement for the wing, Brendan Moon, who was unavailable for Sunday’s match. Moon and the centre, Andrew Slack, has also been recalled for the tour, played for a President’s XV which lost, 21-27, to Wales at Car-
: diff Arms Park last week- ' end. , Although Costello has been • made the scapegoat, several ■ other Queensland backs may be lucky to be touring, but it I seems the selectors are prepared to overlook their lacki lustre performance against. Canterbury. Queensland meets Southi land at Invercargill on Suni day, Otago Sub-unions at • ' Alexandra on Wednesday, i 'May 6, and Otago at Carisbrook on Sunday, May 20, in ' the Otago Football Union’s I special centenary fixture. > The touring squad is: Roger , Gould, Mick O’Connor. AndrewSlack, Brendan Moon, Paul ’ McLean, Tony Parker, Tom Barker, Tony Shaw (captain), Chris , Roche, Peter McLean, Duncan Hall, j Stan Pilecki, Tony D’Arcy, Chris 1 Carberry, Mick Want, Mark Mcßain, Andy Mclntyre, Brendan 1 Donellan, Danny Mclvor, Steve Rowley.
