Proud record extended by Knight
The name of Peter Knight has loomed large in Masport Cup speedboat racing over the 19705, and looks likely to do so for some years yet. Peter Knight senior won the coveted trophy for the sixth time at Lake Kaniere last week, and his closest challenger — as Dad had predicted before the event — was Peter Knight junior. Peter Knight senior retained the handsome trophy in Gone Heavy, the boat, in which he had won in 1978 and 1980. And just a second behind him in both heats was Peter Knight junior, in The Godfather. That boat has a sound record behind it, too, for Knight senior.won in it in .1977, after having had successes (in 1973 and 1974) in Road Runner. The photograph at right shows Peter Knight senior with the Maspoyt Cup, a trophy valued at £ 100 when it was donated by the firm of Mason and Porter in 1923; it is now valued at .$8250. The photograph below shows Peter Knight junior in The Godfather.
