Caravan toppled by high winds
'Gale-force winds ruined the Easter holiday for a Thames couple when their caravan was overturned and wrecked near Waipara; North Canterbury, on Saturday. Constable G. N. Gear, of Waipara, said that the car was crossing the Awapuni hill north of the township when winds pushed one of the car’s tyres off its rim and rolled the caravan on to the side of the road. The couple were shocked but unhurt.
The car was undamaged, but the caravan was a write-off. Other caravans in the area had problems with the strong winds, but no other accidents were reported.
