Mr Sides may appeal
Mr Eric Sides, a Christchurch garage proprietor, may appeal against the decision of the Equal Opportunities Tribunal. Mr Sides was told on Tuesday that the Tribunal had ruled against him for a breach of the Human Rights Commission Act by advertising for Christian employees. ‘ Public pressure has been building up ... This demand for me to take further action by. appealing to the High Court would be costly. I certainly cannot afford it on my own,” Mr Sides said. ,Mr Sides said he already had received about Sil,ooo in donations from the public who had backed his civil proceeding against the Human Rights Commission Act. 'lt could cost up to $30,000 to take an appeal to the High Court,” he said. Commenting on the tribunal’s decision, Mr Sides said it amounted to State interference in religious freedom.
