Six records were broken and one equalled at the final session of the Wharenui junior .“Olympics” at the Wharenui swimming pool.

Only two of the records were set by individuals. The others were established in relays. The outstanding achievement was by the Wharenui A boys under-10 4 x 1 length medley relay team. Anthony Beks (New Brighton) twice broke the boys’ under-14 100 m breaststroke record of Imin 26.25ec set by Mark Harding 11 years ago. In his heat Beks recorded Imin 23.95ec and swam o.2sec faster in the final.

The boys’ under-15 100 m breaststroke time also fell. Taj Hussain (Wharenui) swam Imin 19.6 sec, taking o.Bsec off the time set by Kara Taumaunu a year ago.

In the boys’ under-10 33 13m backstroke Mepi Faoagali (Wharenui) equalled the record of 26.95ec.

The Wharenui boys’ under--15 4 x 1 length medley relay team set a new time of Imin 24sec, o.2sec better than the previous mark. In the girls’ under-12 medley relay New Brighton recorded Imin.

41sec, 2sec better than the time set by Wharenui last year and the Wharenui under-10 medley relay team was o.ssec inside the old record with a new mark of 2min I.6sec.
