Building firm to cease activities
Greymouth reporter The big Greymouth construction ‘firm, Barrow Bros, Ltd, will withdraw from the building business. About 20 staff members were told of the company’s intentions yesterday. The firm, in the meantime, intends to keep its real estate office, sandblasting, and ready-mix concrete enterprises. The closing of the construction side of the business has been caused by the
firm’s failure to secure big; building contracts in the area. The secretary of the Westland branch of the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Union (Mr R. F. Beadle) said that he had been told of the company’s decision, and would , discuss the matter further i with the employees. i A principal of Barrow I Bros. (Mr A. W. Barrow) I said that redundancy payi ments would be made, and | the staff had been given one i month’s notice.
