It would build on the ‘Come on to New Zealand' promotions which toured 15 cities in the United States and Canada in 1979 and 1980. ‘North Americans are discovering New Zealand in a big way,' said Mr Quigley. ‘The latest visitor-arrival statistics show that 77,800 Americans and 18,600 Canadians visited New Zealand during the year to December, 1980, an increase of almost 30 per cent over the previous year. • ‘The market is New Zealand’s second largest source of tourists and is generating $56 million a year.” he said.
