Snack charge at airport

Sir,—Yesterday, March 9, I was stranded at Wellington Airport from 7 a.m. At 8 a.m. my family and I went to the cafeteria for a cup of tea. I ordered four cups of tea and eight slices of toast with sachets of butter and marmalade. In my state of panic I overlooked asking the assistant the price before paying. The charge was $B. I then queried the matter and was told one slice of toast was 70 cents. However. I accepted, the goods because I, along with my family, had not breakfasted. On principle the price is absolutely ridiculous, particularly when the price of a loaf of sliced bread is 62 cents. It varies of course, depending on the type and brand.—Yours, pfe*. B. JONES. March 9, 1981. [Mr B. R. Williamson, managing director, Airline Caterers, Ltd, Wellington, replies: “I regret the incidence of overcharging for the items mentioned; the actual cost of toast, butter and marmalade should be 50 cents per serve. The mistake was mine alone, as during the programming of the cash register I inadvertently put the wrong price in and.it had gone unnoticed until mentioned to me by the supervisor. Mr Jones has been refunded in full.”]
