Vital match for Ashley today
Ashley will carry the South island’s hopes of a place in the final of the lowgoal Savile Cup polo tournament when the semi-finals are played at Blenheim today. To reach the final, Ashley will have to beat Rangitikei B, which has already proved its ability with an 8-5 win over Ashburton. The second semi-final will be between Wanstead B and Hawke's Bay C, two strong sides.
In yesterday’s first-round handicap matches, Blenheim A had the biggest win, beating Geraldine, 11-4|. In a match played in heavy rain, Ashburton adapted to the conditions better than Wairarapa A to win convincingly, 9-4
The other two matches were much closer. Taieri had a stern tussle with Amuri A, before winning, B|-6. Amuri B just scraped in against Blenheim B, SJ-4, in an exciting and entertair'ng match. The semi-final draw for the handicap section today is Blenheim A v. Taieri; Amuri B v. Ashburton.
