Rowing finalists decided

PA Levin Hamilton Boys, Otumoetai, Westlake, and St Kentigerns will meet the highly rated Wanganui Collegiate and Tauranga in the final of the prestigious Maadi Cup, at the New Zealand secondary schools’ rowing championships at Lake Horowhenua today. In the first of ■ the repechage heats yesterday, Hamilton Boys beat Otumoetai by three-quarters of a length. Two lengths back was Auckland Grammar, and Onslow was fourth. Three Auckland crews contested the second repechage heat. Westlake won by a metre from St Kentigerns, with Kings College a distance behind.

Auckland Grammar, Onslow, and Kings College will meet in the petite final. Tauranga and Wanganui Collegiate ran true to form in winning the semi-finals for the Springboks Shield. Wanganui Collegiate No. 1 faced a strong challenge from Hauraki Plains in this boys' under 19 event, but won by 1| lengths, while Westlake was third, two lengths behind Hauraki Plains. In the second semi-final Tauranga No. 1 was well out in front of Wanganui Collegiate No. 2 to win by four lengths. Collegiate narrowly beat Christ’s College into second place by half a length. The three place-getters in each semi-final will meet in today’s finals.
