Famine victims
PA Wellington More famine victims had been discovered in a remote part of Ethiopia dying of starvation, said a World Vision spokesman. A survey team led by Dr Stan Mooneyham to Kaffa Province, near Sudan, had found 40,000 people who had no food and no relief aid. “Dr Mooneyham said the people are in worse shape than anything he has seen in the country. A dozen people' are dying a day of starvation'
in one camp alone,” the spokesman said. World Vision has launcnea a $3 million programme to provide food, medicines, and blankets for the worst-hit famine victims. The agency is also investigating setting up a dam and will station a medical team of six in the drought-stricken southern province of Gamu Goffa. The emergency programme will be parily funded by New Zealanders who give to "World Hunger Week” activities this week.
