$20,000 for Ruling filly
PA Hamilton A half-sister by Ruling to the good handicapper, Bra Hest, topped the Wrightson Bloodstock sale at Claudelands when she ■ fetched $20,000. The yearling filly, offered on account of her breeder, Mrs V. A. L. Carr, of Auckland, went to the bid of Mr J. Van der Brekel, of Howick, Auckland. The filly is from Habanita, which is by Afghanistan from Maybole, by Faux Tirage from Lochwinnoch. As well as being the producer of three winners, Habanita was herself a fine racemare, numbering among her 11 wins the Oliver Nicholson Handicap, Nathan Memorial and S. E. Carr Memorial. The Masterton breeder Mr J. Wallace outlayed $12,000, the next highest price to secure the 13-year-old mare Wave of Gold, which was
sold with a positive test to Exceptionnel. By Crest of the Wave from Gold Queen, by Summertime from the Ninth Duke mare, Shirley Dale, Wave of Gold won five times, including the Wanganui Guineas. She is the dam of three live foals, none of which has yet raced. The Cambridge studmaster, Mr Jim Morris, outlayed $6OOO for the Gold Sovereign mare, Philanna, which was carrying a positive test to Pag Asa. Philanna is a half-sister to Secret Show, a good winner in both Australia and New Zealand, and she was sold on behalf of Ron Taylor, of Cambridge. A disappointing aspect of the sale was the high number of passings — in all 63 of the 158 lots offered were passed. However, the 95 lots sold produced a satisfactory average of $1778. The aggregate was $168,950.
