Namibia-South West Africa
Sir,—P. R, Lindhorst (March 24) does not mention that his country is answerable to the United Nations for Namibia — a trust territory. The present bombing of neighbouring territories and repression of independence shows no apparent “progress” in 62 years “to independence in a free nonpartisan and stable climate in Namibia.” Would “The Press” consider writing an article showing progress to independence of erstwhile “colonial” territories and particularly territories- the League of Nations and United Nations handed . over in 1919 and 1946 as mandates to other “advanced” countries. It is significant that places like Samoa and New Guinea, other trust territories, have long since been granted independence. Countries which have delayed dr refused independence to colonies or mandated territories seen! to have ulterior motives. For instance France uses its Pacific Island “colonies” for French nuclear testing while the homeland remains safe. Why is Namibia not independent after 62 years of tutelage?—Yours, etc., a B. ROBERTS. March 24, 1981.
