Prince Majestic given 51kg in Sydney Cup
NZPA Sydney Hie New Zealand galloper, Prince Majestic, was gjven the opportunity to become the third successive three-year-old to win the $150,000 Sydney Cup (3200 m at Randwick next month when, the weights were released this week.
The Australian Jockey Club handicapper, Col Nickson. allocated Prince Majestic 51kg — half a kilo under weight-for-age — in the Cup to be run at Randwick on April 25.
The last two winners of the Cup were Kingston Town and Double Century, both three-year-olds, whose weights were similar to that given Prince Majestic. Prince Majestic, trained by Ray Verner, made a lightning raid on Sydney in the spring to win 'the $lOO,OOO Champion Stakes stakes (2000 m and is due back in Sydney today for the rich autumn racing. His first start is expected to be the $125,000 Rosehill Guineas (2000 m tomorrow week.
The topweight with Go.skg for the Sydney Cup is the New Zealand-bred Rangong gelding, Hyperno, whose connections have now indicated a Cup start for Hyperno will be unlikely with that weight.
The hardy galloper, Drum, was next with 59.5 kg followed by Shivaree with 56kg but neither is now leaving New Zealand,. Drum, an Auckland Cup winner, is being spelled until the spring following a leg injury. • -.r
Blue Denim, trained by Dave O’Sullivan and runnerup to Beldale Ball in the Melbourne Cup (3200 m last November, has been allo j cated 55.5 kg, Beldale Ball getting 53kg, while other New Zealanders incude Mr. Ay Bee (55kg), Our Big Gamble (54kg), Young Shaun (54kg), Assessed (53kg) and Eruption (53kg). The tough aged stayer, Magistrate, winner; of the Perth Cup, also received 53kg but is reported in Sydney as not making the trip to Sydney.
