Building sites for tender
A recommendation by the Government that tlje Housing Corporation reduce its land holdings has, 'jn part, led to the corporation’s offering 50 building sites for tender.
The sites are situated at the corner of Memorial Avenue and Grahams Road and were bought from the Lands and Survey Department in 1976.
“The corporation originally intended to exchange the land for other sites,” . said the corporation’s district' planner, Mr E. ,J. Barwell. “But the Government said
we should reduce our land holdings and when we looked at developing the sites, we felt it was only marginally worth while.” The corporation had also been approached over the years by nearby residents, who were concerned that the land would be used for State housing, Mr Barwell said.
