Seat blamed for crash
A pilot’s seat that shot backwards as an aircraft was taking off has heen blamed for it’s crashing.
A Cessna 180 was taking off on a scenic flight at Rotorua Airport on December 28 with the pilot, aged 30, and three passengers on board. It was destroyed in the take-off crash when the pilot’s seat shot backwards, leaving him unable to reach the rudder control pedal’s. None of the four people on board were injured. A Ministry of Transport air accident brief said the pilot had managed to grab a door pillar strap and ease himself forward as the plane veered off course.
