Canty team for marathon
The South Island’s fastest woman marathon runner, Doris Trueman, will be Canterbury’s only official woman representative in the national marathon championships which will be held in conjunction with the Fletcher marathon at Rotorua on May 2. Mrs Trueman recorded 2hr 50min 56sec in her first marathon, in winning the womeri’s section of the Taranaki Mountain to Surf' marathon this month. She beat Christine Burden’s previous best for a South Island woman by five minutes. Other members of the official Canterbury ..team are Frank Brookes (Toe H), who was fifth in the recent Coca Cola 10km in Christchurch, Brenton Joyce (St Martins). Brendan Daly (Rovers), and Ivan Shatford (Old Boys-Te Kura).
